Using Jacob Sheep Fleeces

When I first started farming with my wonderful Jacob sheep, I was surprised at firstly how much fleece actually was produced after shearing, and then by the lack of outlets to sell them to.

So I decided to experiment with the fleece and see what I could do from an artistic perspective. Take a look below to see what I came up with.

Felted Shapes with Painted Background

I took the beautiful raw fleece from my Jacobs and carded and then felted small sections into mats. Then cut them into roughly oval and rectangular shapes to represent the granite stone walls of Dartmoor.

These shapes were then stitched and embellished with small beads and sparkly shapes to represent the quartz and mica chips that glint in the granite when the sun shines on them.

I then painted a basic Dartmoor landscape with Vixen Tor in the background and then arranged the felted stone wall in the foreground, so that you would be looking through them see the landscape.
